Dr. Melissa Shelley

Dr. Melissa Shelley is originally from Pennsylvania where her family owned a small farm with horses, cats, and dogs. Dr. Shelley obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from York College of Pennsylvania where she was captain/president of the college’s equestrian team. She attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she spent her final clinical year of schooling at Colorado State University prior to obtaining her doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. While at Colorado State, she was able to obtain her veterinary acupuncture certification through the One Health SIM Veterinary Medical Acupuncture program (now known as Curacore). Dr. Shelley moved to Oahu and worked as a general practitioner and emergency veterinarian for several years. She has pursued her rehabilitation training through the University of Tennessee’s Canine Rehabiliation Practitioner program (CCRP).

Dr. Shelley’s interest in rehabilitation stems from her mother who is a human physical therapist in the Pennsylvania/Maryland area. Dr. Shelley worked with her mother as a physical therapy assistant during the summer when she was in high school and was able to see how physical therapy benefited human patients after surgery or injury. Physical therapy is also used with athletes to obtain and maintain peak performance. Dr. Shelley is now able to translate these therapies to our animal patients so they too can reap the benefits they provide.
